Etsy listings

How many tags can an Etsy listing have?

Up to 13 tags, and each tag can be up to 20 characters. Tags can contain letters, numbers and spaces. You can use apostrophes and hyphens inside a tag, but a tag can't start with one (Etsy Help: tags). Etsy suggests using a diverse set of accurate, multi-word phrases rather than repeating the same words (Etsy Seller Handbook: Keywords 101).

How long can an Etsy title be?

Up to 140 characters. Etsy suggests using fewer than 15 words, saying clearly what the item is, and avoiding repetition and subjective words like "perfect" (Etsy Help: create a listing). Your listing's URL comes from the title you first publish with and doesn't change if you edit the title later (same source).

Can I sell AI-generated digital products on Etsy?

Yes, within limits. Etsy places seller-prompted AI creations under "Designed by a seller", and sellers must disclose the use of AI. Digital items must be made or designed by you (Etsy Help: what can I sell). Etsy's handbook also says the disclosure belongs in the listing description, and that AI prompt bundles sold on their own are prohibited (Etsy Seller Handbook: AI creations; last read 18 October 2026).

What size should Etsy listing photos be?

Etsy recommends at least 2000 px on each side. The first photo should be at least 635 px wide and tall, and landscape or square, so it crops well into thumbnails. Animated GIFs and transparent PNGs aren't supported (Etsy Help: images). A listing can have up to 20 photos and 2 short videos, and a digital listing can include up to 5 files (Etsy Help: create a listing).

Is there a free Etsy shop audit?

There are free options:

• Your own Stats. In Shop Manager → Stats, choose Etsy search under "How shoppers found you" to see which search terms found your listings (Etsy Help: Stats).
• Etsy's community Shop Optimization group, which runs live listing critiques for selected listings (Etsy Community).
• r/Etsy "Feedback Fridays", the one day the subreddit allows shop critique requests (r/Etsy rules).

Gumroad listings

What do I need to appear on Gumroad Discover?

Two sets of conditions (Gumroad Help: Discover):

• Your account: payout settings filled in, a balance of at least $100 from genuine sales (not self-purchases), and verification by Gumroad's risk team, which Gumroad says takes about 3 weeks on average after you pass $100.
• Each product: at least one successful, non-refunded sale, a selected category, and ratings enabled.

Products on Discover are automatically opted into Gumroad's Affiliates Program (same source). If you hide ratings, the product drops out of Discover search (Gumroad Help: ratings).

What size should a Gumroad cover image and thumbnail be?

Covers: at least 1280 × 720 px at 72 DPI, as PNG, JPEG, GIF or MOV, under 50 MB, with up to 8 covers per product. Gumroad recommends an image, not a video, as the first cover. Thumbnail: optional and separate, at least 600 × 600 px. It appears in Discover, customers' libraries and your profile (Gumroad Help: cover and thumbnail images).

Where do tags go on Gumroad?

On the product's Share tab, in the Discover section, along with the category. Gumroad says detailed, specific tags help customers find you on Discover and filter your profile (Gumroad Help: Discover).

How do I get reviews on Gumroad?

Gumroad emails a review reminder to customers 5 days after purchase (sellers can turn this off). You can also email or set up a workflow for the customers of one product, and embed reviews in your description with Insert → Reviews (Gumroad Help: ratings and reviews). Don't offer anything in exchange for reviews, and never write your own.

Pricing and diagnosis

How should I price a digital download?

There's no official "right" price on either platform. A practical method:

1. Open three or four similar listings that look like they're selling. Note their price, number of reviews and what's included.
2. If you have few or no reviews, pricing at the top of that range is a hard sell next to proven options.
3. Make any "was" price or "value" claim real and checkable.
4. On Gumroad you can offer a free or pay-what-you-want entry by adding "+" to a minimum price, such as "$0+" or "$5+" (Gumroad Help: adding a product).
5. Change one thing at a time so you can tell what worked.

Is it a traffic problem or a page problem?

Check your numbers before you rewrite anything. On Gumroad, Analytics shows views, sales, conversion rate and referrers for each product (Gumroad Help: analytics). On Etsy, Stats shows visits, listing views and conversion rate (Etsy Help: Stats glossary). Very few views means traffic: a better page won't create visitors.
